Key Responsibilities

  • Build bioinformatics tools, pipelines, and algorithms to analyze large-scale biological data, including RNA sequencing, DNA sequencing, and more.
  • Perform advanced bioinformatics analyses, such as variant calling, RNA-Seq analysis, and differential gene expression using popular tools like BLAST, Bowtie, GATK, and DESeq2.
  • Partner with researchers and domain experts to design experiments, interpret results, and clearly communicate findings.
  • Stay updated with the latest advancements in bioinformatics, integrating emerging technologies into workflows to enhance efficiency and accuracy.
  • Develop best practices, documentation, and reusable templates for the global Azure Data Services community.
  • Collaborate with strategic customers to understand their needs, distill feedback, and ensure engineering teams prioritize essential improvements.

What You’ll Bring

Must-Have Qualifications:

  • A PhD, Master’s, or Bachelor’s degree in fields like Data Science, Mathematics, Computer Science, or Bioinformatics, combined with 5–10+ years of relevant experience, depending on educational background.
  • Expertise in managing large datasets, applying statistical techniques, and communicating results effectively.
  • Willingness to undergo and meet Microsoft’s security screening requirements.

Preferred Skills and Experience:

  • Hands-on experience with single-cell RNA-seq, ChIP-seq, or ATAC-seq data analysis.
  • Knowledge of advanced bioinformatics techniques like genetic variant analysis, epigenomics, and systems biology.
  • Familiarity with biostatistical models, Bayesian statistics, and interactive visualization tools such as Dash or Shiny.
  • Strong documentation and coding skills for reproducibility and transparency.
